In a bizarre incident straight out of a movie, a liquor-laden truck overturned on the Kadi-Sanand Road near the Muni Ashram in Gujarat on Tuesday, sending hundreds of bottles spilling across the road and triggering an unexpected scramble among local residents.
The truck, carrying a massive consignment of liquor bottles, reportedly hit a bump and lost balance before tumbling over. Traffic was snarled almost immediately as the shattered cartons and bottles spread across the road.
Locals grab bottles before police arrive
Within minutes, people from nearby areas had gathered at the scene. What was meant to be an accident quickly turned into an impromptu collection of free liquor, as many onlookers were seen taking bottles from the road and leaving the spot.

By the time the police got wind of the situation and rushed to control the scene, a major chunk of the consignment had already vanished. Officers, with help from residents who stayed back, managed to collect and seize the remaining liquor and load it onto another vehicle for transport to the local police station.
Traffic returned to normal only after the overturned truck was cleared and the scattered consignment was removed.
Driver still on the run
Meanwhile, the truck driver fled shortly after the accident and has not yet been traced. Police say they are investigating to determine both the source of the liquor and where the consignment was headed. Early signs suggest the vehicle was speeding, though officials are still piecing together the exact cause.
“If local people are found to have looted liquor bottles, legal action will be taken against them as well,” Deputy superintendent of police Prakash Prajapati told reporters, as per the Times of India.
Police officials added that more details will emerge once the driver is arrested.
