Volkswagen has begun taking official pre-bookings for the Tayron 3-row SUV ahead of its price announcement later this month. The Tayron will be the brand’s new flagship offering in India, and it will be locally assembled from CKD kits.
- Tayron is powered by a 204hp, 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine
- Comes in sporty-looking R-Line trim as standard
- Will rival the likes of Skoda Kodiaq, Jeep Meridian
Volkswagen Tayron: what to expect?
To briefly recap, the Tayron is a larger 7-seater version of the Tiguan R-Line which Volkswagen launched in India last year. However, unlike the latter which comes to India as a full import, the Tayron will be locally assembled here.
Like its smaller stablemate, the Tayron will also be offered in a sporty R-Line trim. Standard equipment will include Matrix LED headlamps, 19-inch alloys, illuminated front and rear VW logos, a large 15-inch central touchscreen, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, 3-zone climate control, powered front seats with memory, heating, ventilation and massage functions, head-up display, ambient lighting and a powered tail gate.
Customers will have seven colour options to choose from, namely Dolphin Grey Metallic, Oyster Silver Metallic, Ultraviolet Metallic, Cipressino-Green Metalli, Nightshade Blue Metallic, Grenadilla Black Metallic and Oryx White Mother-of-Pearl Effect.
Volkswagen Tayron engine and specs
The Tayron will get the same engine option as the Tiguan, which means it’s a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder turbo-petrol unit producing 204hp and 320Nm of torque. The engine will come mated to a 7-speed DSG gearbox, with all-wheel drive as standard fitment. Volkswagen claims a 0-100kph sprint time of 7.3 seconds and a top-speed of 224kph.
Upon launch, the Tayron will rival the Skoda Kodiaq, which incidentally is also its platform sibling. It will also take on the Jeep Meridian and Toyota Fortuner.
