Volkswagen has launched the Tayron R-Line at Rs 46.99 lakh (introductory), making the SUV its flagship offering in India. Essentially, an elongated 3-row version of the Tiguan R-Line, the Tayron gets the same 2.0-litre TSI engine, but features some design changes to make it stand apart from the 5-door SUV.

Priced close to the 5-seater Tiguan R-Line sibling
The 3-row Volkswagen Tayron is just Rs 1.26 lakh pricier than the 2-row Tiguan, which currently costs Rs 45.73 lakh. It costs Rs 3.23 lakh more than the 3-row Kodiaq Sportline, though. In contrast to the Tayron, which has seven seats, the Kodiaq is notable for having five-seater option too, priced at Rs 39.99 lakh.

Gets the same engine as the Skoda Kodiaq and VW Tiguan R-Line
The Volkswagen Tayron R-Line is powered by a 2-litre turbo-petrol engine that puts out 204hp and 320Nm. It is mated with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission (DCT) that sends power to all the wheels of the SUV (all-wheel-drive). This is the same engine that is offered with the 5-seater Tiguan R-Line and the Skoda Kodiaq.
With all these numbers, the Tayron R-Line completes a 0-100kph run in 7.3 seconds, before reaching a top speed of 224kph.

Gets revised lighting elements but same 19-inch alloy wheels
At the first glance, the Volkswagen Tayron R-Line looks similar to the 5-seater Tiguan, especially because of its boxy proportions and aggressive creases. But a closer glance reveals a handful of design differences. It gets redesigned Matrix LED headlights and a revised centrepiece with an LED light bar. The LED tail-light elements have also been revised, and the Tiguan gets illuminated Volkswagen logos at the front and rear. However, it gets the same 19-inch alloy wheels, gloss black cladding on the wheel arches, and R-Line badges like the Tiguan R-Line.
While it is built on the same MQB EVO platform as the Tiguan R-Line, but has a larger wheelbase. Here are the dimensions:

Everything is identical to the Tiguan R-Line, save for a silver strip on the dashboard
The Tayron R-Line’s interior looks similar to the Tiguan, save for a silver trim that spans the length of the dashboard. Other than this, everything else including the 15-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 10.25-inch digital driver’s display and a 3-spoke steering wheel are the same. The seats get a leatherette upholstery and adjustable headrests are offered for all passengers.
Other features include a 3-zone climate control, a panoramic sunroof, a wireless phone charger, 12-way powered front seats with memory, massage and ventilation functions, an 11-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, a powered tailgate and a 30-colour ambient lighting. In its safety suite, the Tayron is offered with 9 airbags, 360-degree camera with blind spot monitor, level 2 ADAS, hill start and hold assists.
