Vipul Amrutlal Shah’s The Kerala Story 2 finally released in cinemas on February 27. It was a sequel to the 2023 blockbuster that made Rs 240 crore at the box-office. But unlike that first part, the sequel has not been able to leave a mark at the ticket windows as far as the four day collections are concerned.
It has minted over Rs 13 crore in four days whereas Adah Sharma’s film three years ago minted Rs 44 crore in the same four days.
The controversy it faced
Vipul Amrutlal Shah’s
_The Kerala Story 2_ was all set to release in cinemas on February 27. But the Kerala High Court has halted the release after a petition and it has observed the film depicts the state in wrong light. The observation over the content of the film was done by Justice Bechu Kurian Thomas.
Shah observed the plea to halt the film’s release is ‘premature, misconceived and not maintainable’.’ The filmmaker’s affidavit says ‘The supervisory jurisdiction of this court does not extend to substituting its own assessment of a film’s content for the expert judgment of the certifying authority. The said film is slated to release in over 1,800 theatres across India as well as overseas.’
In a detailed statement, Sunshine Pictures clarified that the matter is currently sub judice and no court has passed any order directing the removal of any promotional content.
“Sunshine Pictures would like to categorically clarify that the news currently circulating regarding the removal of
_The Kerala Story 2 – Goes Beyond_ teaser is completely false, baseless, and misleading. The matter is presently subjudice. No judgement or order has been passed by any court directing the removal of any content,” the statement read.
The production house further stressed that neither the teaser nor the trailer has been taken down, adding that both remain accessible across all official platforms.
