Ousted Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro has arrived at a courthouse in New York City for his first appearance. He has been charged with narco-terrorism.
Deposed Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro on Monday arrived at a courthouse in New York City to stand trial for narco-terrorism.
Maduro’s wife, Cilia Flores, has also been charged with narco-terrorism and other crimes.
In a nighttime operation, US special forces personnel on Saturday arrived in Venezuelan capital Caracas, seized Maduro and Cilia, and whisked them away. They were first transported to a US Navy warship and then to the mainland.
Earlier in the day, Maduro was escorted by heavily armed law enforcement personnel and transported in a helicopter and then in a armoured vehicle to the courthouse. The visuals of his movements have surfaced.
