The Department of Homeland Security said on Friday that it will end Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for nationals of the affected country, with the decision taking effect 60 days after a notice is published in the Federal Register.
TPS permits citizens of designated countries to stay and work in the United States for limited periods — typically up to 18 months when conditions such as war, environmental disasters or other extraordinary circumstances make it unsafe to return home.
The move aligns with the Trump administration’s broader immigration enforcement push. DHS has prioritised scaling back TPS as part of its mass deportation strategy, ending protections that have allowed hundreds of thousands of immigrants from various countries to legally reside in the US.
