The United States has ordered the evacuation of non-emergency personnel from its embassy in Beirut, citing heightened regional security concerns as speculation grows that President Donald Trump could soon authorise airstrikes on Iran.

According to a Bloomberg report, citing a senior US Department of State official, an assessment of the regional security environment prompted Washington to reduce its diplomatic presence to essential personnel only.

The embassy will remain operational, and the measure is temporary, the official added, without directly referencing Iran.

The move comes as the US military builds up its presence in the Middle East, deploying two aircraft carriers along with additional fighter jets and refuelling tankers.

Trump said on Friday that he is “considering” limited strikes on Iran and warned that Tehran has limited time to reach an agreement over its nuclear programme.

US and Iranian officials have been engaged in negotiations in recent weeks, with the next round of talks scheduled for Thursday.
