Republican Congressman Brandon Gill sparked controversy after making the remarks in a video shared on social media, captioned, “Mass Islamic migration is killing the America we know and love.” He alleged that demographic changes in parts of the Dallas area have altered the cultural character of local communities.
Gill said he regularly hears from constituents who are “deeply and desperately concerned” about what he described as the Islamisation of the region. He claimed that mosques were “popping up” near land owned by families for generations and alleged that entire communities were being transformed.
Speaking to Real America’s Voice, Gill said residents felt that their culture and way of life were changing. “You hear constituents talking about going to their local malls, and it feels like you’re in Pakistan, not Dallas, Texas. That’s a problem,” he said.
Gill did not provide data or evidence to support his claims, prompting criticism and pushback on social media. Several users accused him of making inflammatory remarks, while others linked his comments to past controversies involving his family.
Gill’s wife, Danielle D’Souza Gill, is of Indian origin and the daughter of conservative commentator and Trump ally Dinesh D’Souza. The couple had earlier drawn criticism over remarks targeting Indian-origin Democrat Zohran Mamdani during the New York City mayoral election.
That row began when Gill reshared a video of Mamdani eating rice with his hands and wrote that “civilized people in America don’t eat like this.” Danielle D’Souza Gill later defended the comment, saying she had always used a fork.
Social media users pointed out that eating with hands is common in many South Asian cultures, including India. Responding to the criticism, she emphasised her Christian faith and American upbringing.
Brandon Gill represents Texas’s 26th Congressional District and was elected to the US House of Representatives in 2024. He says his priorities include border security, reducing government waste, and strengthening the US economy.
