Ukraine launched drone attacks on Moscow and southern Russia for a third straight night, prompting temporary airport closures and reported strikes on industrial facilities

Ukraine launched another wave of drone attacks across Russia overnight, targeting Moscow and several other regions for the third consecutive night, Russian authorities said on Wednesday. The strikes caused temporary flight suspensions and reportedly threatened an industrial facility in Russia’s south.

According to the Russian defence ministry, air defence units destroyed a total of 100 Ukrainian drones overnight, including six over the Moscow region and 13 across bordering regions. The ministry shared the details on its Telegram channel.

Moscow’s mayor, Sergei Sobyanin, said the capital came under attack in several waves. The Russian aviation authority, Rosaviatsiya, confirmed that three of Moscow’s four airports, along with several others nationwide, were briefly closed for safety reasons.

Attacks reach Russia’s southern industrial zone

In the Stavropol region, Ukraine targeted the Budyonnovsk industrial zone, regional governor Vladimir Vladimirov said on Telegram. The Russian defence ministry reported that its units shot down two drones over the area. Vladimirov added that the attack caused no significant damage and no casualties.

Ukrainian media outlets, including RBK-Ukraine, reported that the strikes aimed at the Stavrolen chemical plant, part of Russia’s Lukoil group. Stavrolen is one of the country’s main producers of polyethylene and polypropylene, according to both Russian and Ukrainian reports.

Russia has generally released limited information about Ukrainian attacks within its territory unless civilian areas are affected. Over the two previous nights, the Russian defence ministry said its forces had destroyed 35 Ukrainian drones over the Moscow region without any reported damage.
