Dubai-Abu Dhabi News Live: The UAE has shut its Tehran embassy and recalled its ambassador after Iran’s retaliatory Gulf strikes killed four people and wounded dozens
Unprecedented Gulf bombardments by Iran have heightened fears of a widening conflict and shaken a region traditionally viewed as a zone of stability and security in turbulent West Asia.
For a second consecutive day, AFP correspondents reported repeated, powerful blasts across Dubai, Doha, and Manama, with explosions also heard in Riyadh, as Iran launched counterstrikes following attacks by the United States and Israel.
On Sunday, Tehran also appeared to target a building complex in Abu Dhabi that houses several foreign missions, including the Israeli embassy. Two people were injured by falling debris during the incident at Etihad Towers.
According to the UAE defence ministry, three foreign nationals—from Pakistan, Nepal, and Bangladesh—have been killed in the country since Saturday. Since the onset of the attack, the UAE detected 165 ballistic missiles, destroying 152, and intercepted two cruise missiles, the ministry said. It also reported that 506 of 541 Iranian drones had been shot down.
In Kuwait, the health ministry confirmed one death and 32 injuries since Saturday.
In Oman, which helped mediate US–Iran talks and was the only Gulf state spared during the first day of the Iranian campaign, the port of Duqm was targeted by two drones, according to the Oman News Agency. Later on Sunday, Omani Foreign Minister Badr Albusaidi urged a ceasefire in a phone call with his Iranian counterpart, Abbas Araghchi.
Earlier, Oman reported that an oil tanker had been targeted off its coast, prompting the evacuation of its crew, four of whom were injured.
