US President Donald Trump has said Europe is at a “tipping point” due to its immigration and energy problems. This is the latest in a string of attacks that Trump has directed at the continent as he tries to consolidate the US’s position with decisive policies.

Last year, a White House report on national security claimed that Europe will be “unrecognisable” and that its civilisation risks “erasure” in the face of increasing immigration and economic decline.
Trump had made a scathing remark against European leaders back in December, suggesting that they are “weak” and that countries on the continent are “decaying”.
What does the White House report say?
The unauthored document, called
National Security Strategy, was signed by President Donald Trump and released on Friday. Trump wrote the foreword of the report, saying that it is a “roadmap to ensure America remains the greatest and most successful nation in human history.”
“This economic decline is eclipsed by the real and more stark prospect of civilisational erasure. Should present trends continue, the continent will be unrecognisable in 20 years or less,” the report said.
The report highlights the problem areas of Europe and has statements asserting the continent’s supposed decline. It also blames the European Union for undermining political freedoms and failing to clamp down on immigration, which the US said is fuelling social tensions.
According to the report, the US’s primary objectives in Europe will be to achieve a swift end to the war in Ukraine, foster “resistance to Europe’s current trajectory within European nations,” expand access to European markets for American companies, and halt further NATO expansion.
