Toyota India has begun its teaser campaign for its first electric car, the Urban Cruiser EV. The first teaser of the India-spec Toyota Urban Cruiser EV provides some exterior design details, but not much else.

  1. Toyota Urban Cruiser EV teased is similar to Auto Expo 2025 model
  2. Expected to share interior layout, battery and powertrain with e Vitara

Toyota Urban Cruiser EV exterior design

Exterior design details are identical to the near-production concept showcased at Auto Expo 2025.

Showcased at last year’s Auto Expo in near-production concept form, the India-spec Urban Cruiser EV teaser shows that it is quite similar to the display model. The slim headlights with the LED ‘eyebrows’, the sculpted bonnet and the beefy front bumper seem to be identical, as is the BEV badge and the charging port above the front fender.

Toyota Urban Cruiser EV interior features

Likely to share layout and features list with the Maruti e Vitara.

Not much is known about the India-spec Toyota’s EV’s interior, but based on the model revealed for international markets, the cabin layout, features list and safety kit will be quite similar to its badge-engineered twin, the Maruti e Vitara. Expect the same two-spoke steering wheel, a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment, a 10.1-inch digital instrument cluster and a Level 2 ADAS suite.

Toyota Urban Cruiser EV battery and range

49kWh and 61kWh with over 500km ARAI range expected.

Toyota’s EV is also expected to share the same 49kWh and 61kWh battery pack options as the e Vitara; Maruti claims the larger battery can go 543km on a single charge. The front axle mounted motor options – 144hp and 174hp – are also expected to be shared between the two EVs.

More details will trickle out in the run up to the India-spec Toyota Urban Cruiser’s public debut, which is expected next month. This EV will join the burgeoning mid-size eSUV segment, contending with the likes of the Hyundai Creta Electric, Mahindra BE 6, MG ZS EV and the upcoming Tata Sierra EV.
