She continued, “Mahesh Manjrekar was a great guy. That’s why I like to forget my film – because the production was awful! And I say it out loud.”
Radhika Apte has been a part of the Hindi film industry for the last 15 years. She has been a part of films like Rakht Charitra, Shor In The City, Padman, and Baazaar. The actress also starred in Netflix’s 2018 web-series Sacred Games, Tisca Chopra’s Saali Mohabbat, and now has Raat Akeli Hai 2 coming up on Netflix tomorrow.
In an interview with Firstpost, the actress recalled her ‘awful’ experience of working in Shahid Kapoor’s ‘Vaah! Life Ho Toh Aisi!’, a film that also starred Sanjay Dutt and was directed by Mahesh Manjrekar. It came out 20 years ago this month only.
Apte revealed, “The awful producers didn’t put me up and didn’t pay me. When my mother and I asked them to sign a contract, they said, ‘Arey, even Urmila Matondkar didn’t sign a contract.’ I don’t know if she signed or not, but they treated us horribly.”
She continued, “Mahesh Manjrekar was a great guy. That’s why I like to forget my film – because the production was awful! And I say it out loud.”
She said, “I was doing a play called Brain Surgeon. It was a good play. We won an award in a state competition. Mahesh Manjrekar was one of the judges. He called me after the play and said, ‘I want to cast you.’”
“Then I didn’t do a film for a long time. I finished college, and then I went back to films after a long time. So, I don’t really count that as one of the films I did. But yeah, it’s been two decades,” concluded the actress.
The violence in films
As per a report by The Hollywood Reporter India,
Radhika Apte expressed her displeasure and discomfort owing to the increasing violence on the screen. Apte was quoted saying, “I feel quite disturbed, and I have to say this openly… I am deeply disturbed by the violence at the moment that is selling as entertainment. I don’t want to be bringing up a child in a world where that is entertainment. I just cannot deal with it.”
