The ICE-powered Tata Sierra SUV was launched recently with prices starting at Rs 11.49 lakh in a front-wheel-drive (FWD) configuration. At the sidelines of the launch, Tata Motors’ Chief Commercial Officer, Vivek Srivatsa, told Autocar India that the Sierra EV will be offered with both RWD and AWD at launch in 2026, unlike the Sierra ICE, which will get AWD variants in 2027.

  1. Sierra EV is based on the same Acti.ev+ platform as the flagship Harrier EV.
  2. Sanand plant’s production capacity will be amped up before Sierra EV’s launch.

Tata Sierra EV: RWD and AWD launch together

Like the Harrier EV, both drive layouts will be available at launch

The Sierra EV is built on the manufacturer’s Acti.ev+ platform, which Tata says features a multi-layer skateboard design that enables all-wheel drive, faster charging, and advanced driver assistance systems. The Harrier EV is the first Tata car built on this platform with both rear-wheel-drive (RWD) and all-wheel-drive (AWD) setups.

Sanand production facility to roll out both Sierra ICE and EV

Vivek Srivatsa from Tata Motors also told Autocar India that the Sierra EV will roll out of the manufacturer’s Sanand production plant alongside the Sierra ICE, similar to the Nexon and Curvv nameplates. The plant’s capacity is likely to be amped up to accommodate the Sierra ICE’s production, which can be further increased to accommodate the EV.

Notably, Tata Motors’ Sanand plant was acquired from Ford India in January 2023. Currently, it has a production capacity of 3 lakh units per annum, and at its launch, it was said to be scalable to 4.2 lakh units per annum.

Tata Sierra EV: Expected powertrain options

Official details unknown, but likely to share Curvv EV and Harrier EV’s battery options

Powertrain details of the Sierra EV are yet to be revealed by Tata Motors, but it is expected to borrow the Curvv EV’s top-spec 55kWh battery pack and the Harrier EV’s lower-spec 65kWh battery pack. Notably, the Curvv EV’s 55kWh battery pack is paired with a 167hp front-axle-mounted electric motor, while the Harrier EV’s 65kWh unit is mated with a 238hp rear-axle-mounted motor.

Like the ICE-powered model, the Tata Sierra EV will slot in between the Tata Curvv EV and Tata Harrier EV, which have price ranges of Rs 17.49-21.99 lakh and Rs 21.49-29.48 lakh, respectively. The Sierra EV will rival the Hyundai Creta Electric, Mahindra BE 6, MG ZS EV and the upcoming Maruti Suzuki e Vitara.

Prices are ex-showroom, India
