Sydney Sweeney shuts down cosmetic-surgery rumours, saying she’s never had work done and calling social media speculation “insane.”

Hollywood actress Sydney Sweeney has finally addressed the swirling rumours about cosmetic surgery and makeover speculation. Her message is loud and clear, she’s never had any work done. In a new interview for Allure magazine, the 28-year-old star, known for her roles in shows like ‘Euphoria’ and films such as ‘Anyone But You’, shut down years of online chatter about her appearance.

Sweeney was asked to choose one beauty myth she’d like to clear up, and she didn’t hesitate. “I mean, I have never gotten work done,” she declared plainly. She added with a kind of disbelief, “I am so scared of needles, you have no idea.”

Her co-star Amanda Seyfried, who joined the interview, attempted to lighten the mood by saying cosmetic enhancements might make sense “when you get older.” To which Sweeney replied with a laugh and a promise, “I’ll call you.”

Sweeney went a step further, dismissing critics who compare her childhood photos with her current red-carpet images. You cannot compare a photo of me from when I was 12 to a photo of me at 26 with professional makeup and lighting! Of course I’m going to look different.” She added bluntly, “Everybody on social media’s insane.”

Sweeney reveals the only surgery she’s had

In her candid reveal, Sweeney clarified that the only time she underwent surgery was after a childhood wakeboarding accident which required 19 stitches and left one eye “opening a little more than the other.” She emphasised the surgery was purely medical and had nothing to do with altering her looks.

“I’m going to age gracefully”

This is not the first time Sweeney has spoken out about body image pressures. In a previous 2025 interview with Variety, she recalled being told at age 16 that she would need to “fix her face” to make it in the industry, even being advised to get Botox. She rejected those ideas then, and continues to do so now. She reiterated, “No tattoos. Nothing. I’m going to age gracefully.”
