Authorities say the arrests came after they received intelligence suggesting a possible threat, but they have stressed there is no confirmed link to the ongoing investigation into the Bondi incident
Australian police have detained seven men in Sydney on suspicion that they were planning a violent act, in an operation that took place on Thursday amid heightened security following the deadly Bondi Beach attack earlier this week.
Authorities say the arrests came after they received intelligence suggesting a possible threat, but they have stressed there is no confirmed link to the ongoing investigation into the Bondi incident.
The New South Wales Police’s Tactical Operations Unit intercepted two vehicles in the Liverpool area of south-west Sydney after acting on specific information that “a violent act was possibly being planned,” a police statement said. Officers conducted the operation with tactical teams wearing camouflage and body armour, visually searching and detaining the individuals as part of the inquiry.
Footage and images shared on social media showed the suspects handcuffed and lying face-down on the ground as heavily armed officers stood nearby. Police said all seven men are now assisting with inquiries.

The arrests come just days after a
mass shooting at Bondi Beach left multiple people dead and injured during a Hanukkah by the Sea event in eastern Sydney, an attack that Australian authorities have described as terrorism.
While there is no identified connection between the foiled plot and the Bondi Beach shooting, the timing of the arrest is important. Police have been conducting extensive investigations into the Bondi attack and related security matters as part of a broader response to ensure community safety.

Are they linked to Bondi Beach shooters?
In their statement, New South Wales Police said that they have “not identified any connection to the current police investigation of the Bondi terror attack” at this stage, even as inquiries into both matters continue.
The Liverpool operation was reportedly over by about 8:30 pm, after which officers confirmed the detained men were assisting with the ongoing probe. Authorities have said there is no immediate threat to the public linked to these arrests, as per ABC News.
