Comedian Zakir Khan has announced he will take a long break of three to five years, possibly until 2030, to prioritise his health and personal well-being. His current Papa Yaar tour will conclude with shows up to 20 June 2026.
Stand-up comedian Zakir Khan has announced that he will be taking a significant break from his live comedy career to focus on his health and personal well-being, saying the hiatus could last three, four or even five years.
The news was shared during one of his recent performances in Hyderabad as part of his ongoing Papa Yaar tour, where a video of his announcement has begun circulating widely across social media.
Long Break Until Possibly 2030
Addressing his audience from the stage, Zakir said that after completing his current commitments, he plans to step away from the stand-up circuit for an extended period. He told fans, “I’m going on a long, long break. Probably till 2028–29, or even 2030. It will be a break of three, four, or five years to take care of my health and to sort out a few other things.”
The emotionally-toned message reflected his gratitude for the support he has received over the years, with Zakir adding that everyone present at the show that night was “very close to my heart”.
Final Shows as Celebration
Zakir later reiterated the plan through his Instagram Stories after a show in Dubai, where he hinted that his decision was firm and asked fans to attend the remaining scheduled performances. In a post shared online, he wrote, “Every show is a celebration till June 20. I won’t be able to come to many cities this time, so please make a little extra effort and come to the shows. Thank you for all the love.”
This suggests that the Papa Yaar tour will continue at least through 20 June 2026, after which the comedian’s hiatus will begin in earnest.
Health as Top Priority
Zakir’s decision comes amid a broader conversation about the intense demands placed on touring comedians and performers. According to prior posts he shared with fans, extensive touring, including multiple shows a day, early-morning flights, unpredictable schedules and irregular meals, has taken a toll on his physical well-being. He previously revealed that he had been feeling unwell for over a year before the break announcement.
Reflecting on the need for rest and recovery, Zakir said that although he loves being on stage and performing for his fans, prioritising his health and personal life has become essential before it is “too late”.
Fan Reaction
Fans have responded to the news with mixed emotions, many expressing support and wishing him a healthy recovery, while others have shared how meaningful his comedy has been to them over the years. Known for his “Sakht Launda” persona and emotionally resonant storytelling, Zakir has been one of India’s most popular stand-up comedians for over a decade, selling out shows nationwide and abroad.
Whether Zakir returns in 2028, 2029 or 2030, his extended break underscores a growing emphasis among performers on balancing career pressures with personal health.
