A 22-year-old Indian man was physically assaulted in Australia outside of his gym. Harmanpreet Singh, a nurse from Corio, said that three men said racial slurs to him before attacking him while he was training at his gym.
The Sikh man said that the incident occurred late on Tuesday when three men harassed him inside the gym facility, adding that they followed him outside, where the situation escalated quickly.
Singh told 9News, “He got really close to my face and then just got really back and hit his head on my nose. And just started bleeding straight away.”
Video shown by the media outlet shows that the three men said, “Wanna mouth off, you Indian dog?” One of the men can also be heard saying, “Go back to where you came from” during the confrontation.”
Singh reported that the three suspects escaped in a sedan shortly after the attack, leaving him severely bleeding at the scene. He was transported to a hospital, where he remained overnight for medical observation. Doctors have advised that he may need to see a specialist and could potentially require surgery to treat his injuries.
“Nobody wants to hear it… especially when you’re just minding your own business. Anyone would be hurt. I’m still traumatised,” Singh.
The 22-year-old nurse said that it was not the first time he had been racially abused in Australia, but stressed that the recent attack was the most distressing one.
Last year, Australia saw a number of alleged racially motivated attacks targeting Indians. In July 2025, a 23-year-old Indian student, Amanpreet Singh, was admitted to the hospital following a violent assault in central Adelaide that was reportedly racially driven. Reports state that five men, allegedly carrying metal knuckles or other sharp weapons, attacked him without provocation.
