Bindiya Ke Bahubali is what happens when Gangs Of Wasseypur and Mirzapur decide to have a baby, and the infant grows up to be as reckless and rustic, and wearing profanity like a second skin. No amount of nattiness can camouflage its notoriety. The show that is directed by Raj Amit Kumar and co-written by Sankalp Rawal is yet another take on the nexus between the policemen and politicians. There’s another moniker in the list that goes by the name of Zilla Gaziabad, which found no takers when it came out back in 2013.
But just by looking at the cast that the director has chosen to tell his story is almost worth the price of your subscription. Who is going to say no when you get to read names like Saurabh Shukla, Ranvir Shorey, Seema Biswas, Vineet Kumar, Sai Tamhankar, Govvind Namdev, Aakash Dahiya, Sheeba Chaddha, Tannishtha Chhatterjee, Sushant Singh, Kranti Praksh Jha, Dibyendu Bhattacharya? Here’s what the show is about:
In
Bindiya – A fictitious madhouse city, chaos reigns supreme in an unconventionally weird gangster family fighting within itself not just for power, money or dominance but what they assume to be their own share of worth. This mad family has love-hate bond to the extremes – they can’t live with each and they can’t live without each other. But this is just the tip of the iceberg. The ensemble has lived and breathed the grime of the heartland, all with lingering experiences. The man with the top honour is unquestionably Saurabh Shukla, who gave us the riveting and rousing Bandit Queen.
We also have Shorey, who can flaunt Sonchiriya with pride in his filmography. Bhattacharya can boast of Undekhi. And Sushant Singh has Satya by his side. Of course, the web-series isn’t a classic but delivers enough bang for your bucks. The first thing about making stories about the heartland is to get the milieu right. And the narrative should be juicy enough to suck you in its chaos and conflicts. This is the classic example of old wine in a new bottle that tastes very well, even if it doesn’t leave you entirely intoxicated. Nobody should promote debauchery.
The new season takes the political power struggle into a brutal family war. Darker, more intense, and deeply personal, the conflict between Bade Davan and Chhote Davan escalates with shifting alliances and deadly consequences, season 2 promises high-stakes drama, sharp writing, and characters pushed to their limits. We have been so accustomed to watching banalities in the name of mass cinema that stories like these almost got lost in the crowd. But this show on Amazon MX Player at least tries. Or given its audacity, dares.
