Russia said on Thursday that there was still room for negotiation between Iran and the United States and warned that any use of force against Tehran would have dangerous consequences and cause chaos throughout the West Asia.
Russia on Thursday urged restraint amid rising tensions between Iran and the United States, saying diplomatic options remain open and warning that any military action against Tehran would risk destabilising the entire West Asia.
The remarks came a day after US President Donald Trump called on Iran to return to negotiations over its nuclear programme, warning of possible military consequences if no deal is reached.
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said the scope for dialogue has not been exhausted and stressed that force would only deepen regional instability. He said efforts should remain centred on diplomatic channels rather than coercive measures.
Peskov cautioned that any use of force against Iran could trigger “very dangerous consequences” and undermine the region’s already fragile security architecture, adding that escalation would create widespread chaos rather than resolve disputes.
Russia has significantly strengthened its relationship with Iran since the start of the Ukraine war, positioning Tehran as a key strategic partner. The two countries signed a 20-year strategic cooperation treaty in January 2025, further deepening political, economic and security ties.
