Ruben Amorim cut a frustrated figure after Manchester United dropped points in a 4-4 Premier League thriller vs Bournemouth, stressing that fine margins and poor game management cost his side victory.
Ruben Amorim was left “really disappointed” once again as Manchester United played out a thrilling 4-4 draw against Bournemouth on Monday at Old Trafford in the English Premier League. Man United took the lead twice in the first half before finding themselves down 3-2 early in the second half.
Goals from Bruno Fernandes and Matheus Cunha allowed the Red Devils to take a 4-3 lead by the 79th minute, but Eli Junior Kroupi spoiled the fun for the home fans with a late equaliser in the 84th minute.
Amorim slams United players after Bournemouth draw
Amad Diallo and Casemiro had scored for United in the first half, while the remaining goals for Bournemouth came through Antoine Semenyo, Evanilson and Marcus Tavernier.
Amorim was bitterly disappointed with the result as he admitted that while it was a fun game for the neutrals, United should have secured a victory.
“It’s really disappointing, Amorim said. “We are really disappointed. Crazy game. It might look like we lost the two points in the second half but I think we lost them in the first half. We dominated and created so many chances.
“We had to go to half-time with a different result. In the end we deserved more. It was a fun game for everyone at home. I think we started really well. We did a very good first half. The result should be completely different. And then, again, I think six minutes into the second half, similar to Nottingham [Forest], we lost the concentration and they scored two goals, but we managed to get back into the game.
“We score two goals again and then we have to finish the game. A throw-in in our possession, we need to think about, not to go again but to take calm and to close the game. In the end, it was a fun game.”
While analysing where things went wrong with United, Amorim said that his team’s game awareness is something that needs to improve.
“It does seem [like] a lot of good things, but a lot of things to work [on]. We are not winning games sometimes in the details. It’s not about because it’s a back four, back three, back five. It’s the details that we need to work [on to] understand the momentum of the game. You need to be more clinical, because, again, today it’s against a very good team. We created so many chances to win the game, we should have won the three points.”
Man United have jumped to the sixth spot in the Premier League standings with 26 points from 16 matches after the draw vs Bournemouth, who are 13th in the table with 21 points.
Man United’s next match is at Aston Villa on Sunday.
