PM Modi spoke with Mauritian Prime Minister Dr Navinchandra Ramgoolam on Monday, reaffirming their commitment to deepen the special and people-centric partnership between India and Mauritius, with a focus on cooperation and stability in the Indian Ocean Region.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday held a telephone conversation with his Mauritian counterpart, Dr Navinchandra Ramgoolam, during which the two leaders reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening the special, historic and people-centric ties between India and Mauritius.
Focus on cooperation and Indian Ocean stability
In a post on X, Modi said the two sides reviewed progress in wide-ranging bilateral cooperation since their meeting in Varanasi last year. He added that India and Mauritius would continue to work together to achieve shared objectives of peace and stability in the Indian Ocean Region. Modi also said he looked forward to welcoming Ramgoolam to India for the AI Impact Summit next week.

Outcomes of Ramgoolam’s India visit
The two leaders last met during Ramgoolam’s visit to India in September, when they agreed to deepen cooperation in areas including infrastructure, healthcare, digital technology, energy and maritime security. Several memoranda of understanding were signed during the visit.
In March last year, Modi presented Overseas Citizen of India cards to Ramgoolam and his spouse, Veena Ramgoolam. Around the same time, during President Droupadi Murmu’s state visit to Mauritius, India extended OCI eligibility to Mauritian nationals of Indian origin traceable up to the seventh generation, a step aimed at strengthening ties with the Indian diaspora.
