PM Modi expressed grief over the death of former Bangladesh prime minister Khaleda Zia, saying he was deeply saddened and recalling her contribution to India-Bangladesh relations.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday reacted to the death of former Bangladesh prime minister Khaleda Zia, recalling her role in strengthening India-Bangladesh relations. Mourning the Bangladesh National Party (BNP) chairperson, PM Modi said he was “deeply saddened” by her passing.

In a post on X, PM Modi said, “Deeply saddened to learn about the passing away of former Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia in Dhaka. Our sincerest condolences to her family and all the people of Bangladesh. May the Almighty grant her family the fortitude to bear this tragic loss.”

The Prime Minister also recalled his meeting with Khaleda Zia in 2015, a year after he took office. “I recall my warm meeting with her in Dhaka in 2015. We hope that her vision and legacy will continue to guide our partnership. May her soul rest in peace,” he wrote.

PM Modi further acknowledged Khaleda Zia’s role in fostering diplomatic ties between India and Bangladesh, saying her important contributions would always be remembered.
