At the India Energy Week in Goa, Prime Minister Narendra Modi described the long-awaited trade pact with the European Union as a “huge opportunity” for people on both sides. His remarks came amid a broader backdrop of global trade shifts, changing priorities after years of talks, and India stepping up its engagement with key partners in Europe.
‘Huge opportunity for Indians and Europeans,’ Modi says
Addressing the energy conclave virtually, PM Modi spoke about how the India-EU free trade agreement, still in the final stages of formal announcement at the 16th India-EU Summit, could benefit sectors across the board.
“This is going to be a huge opportunity for Indians and Europeans,” he said, underlining that industries like textiles and jewellery stand to gain significantly from enhanced market access.
The agreement, which has been in negotiation for nearly two decades, is set to dramatically expand trade and investment flows between New Delhi and Brussels, covering goods and services and bringing the two blocs closer economically.

With India’s bilateral trade with the EU already surpassing $136 billion in recent years, the pact promises to deepen commercial ties further.
