Corridor route and connectivity
Sarai Kale Khan, which marks the start of the corridor, is one of four Namo Bharat stations. The route covers 14 km in Delhi — including 9 km elevated and 5 km underground — and 68 km in Uttar Pradesh, with 61 km elevated and 7 km underground. The hub connects Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station, the Delhi Metro Pink Line, Veer Haqeeqat Rai ISBT, and Ring Road, ensuring seamless multi-modal connectivity.
Aim of the project
The project aims to enable faster travel between Delhi and Meerut and improve access to the national capital for people from nearby districts.
After flagging off the services from Shatabdi Nagar station, the Prime Minister travelled on the newly launched Meerut Metro to Meerut South station and interacted with schoolchildren. He will also inaugurate and dedicate multiple development projects in Meerut worth around Rs 12,930 crore.
About the project
The combined Namo Bharat RRTS and Meerut Metro project has been developed at an estimated cost of Rs 30,274 crore and spans about 82.15 km, including nearly 70 km of elevated track and around 12 km underground.
Earlier, rapid rail services operated only between Ashok Vihar and Meerut South. With the latest inauguration, trains will run from Modipuram to Sarai Kale Khan, covering the approximately 82-km stretch in about 55 minutes.
The fare for the full journey has been fixed at around Rs 213, calculated at Rs 2.60 per kilometre.
The event also marks the beginning of metro rail services in Meerut for the first time, a major step towards modernising the city’s urban transport system.
