Sandeep Reddy Vanga added, “After Ranveer passed, Shahid was approached. But people weren’t convinced. Shahid’s track record was a concern; none of his solo films had done Rs 100 crore then.”

Ranveer Singh’s Dhurandhar has created history at the box-office and continues to generate massive numbers a month after its release. The second part will release in cinemas on March 19. And amid the blockbuster success, an interview of filmmaker Sandeep Reddy Vanga has gone viral where he revealed how Singh was the first choice for Kabir Singh and not Shahid Kapoor.

Vanga was quoted saying to iDream Media, “I was continuously getting calls from Mumbai to do the remake. First, it was pitched to Ranveer Singh. I wanted to do it with him. But finally, he decided he will not do it, because it was too dark for him at that time.”

Sandeep Reddy Vanga added, “After Ranveer passed, Shahid was approached. But people weren’t convinced. Shahid’s track record was a concern; none of his solo films had done Rs 100 crore then, his highest was Rs 65 crore. They used to say Rs 55 crore, Rs 65 crore is the kind of business Telugu movies do.”

“Why are you doing it with this guy? If it was Ranveer, the box office would be higher’. But I was always sure about Shahid, he’s a fantastic actor.”

Shahid Kapoor on ‘Kabir Singh’: ‘Post that, I didn’t hear anything that was exciting, and then…’

“I have been missing doing something light and fun. But honestly, it is the most difficult genre to crack. I listen to ten scripts a month. People don’t know that, but there is so much to hear. I know people tell me ‘aur picture karo (do more films)’, but it is so difficult to find scripts that you feel that you are going to offer the audience something new,” said the actor.

He added, “Love stories is the most difficult genre to do. I just feel that this film was answering that question of mine – What is it that you can do new in a love story? When I did ‘Kabir Singh,’ the character was new for me. The entire journey, the way the entire relationship was, it was shocking, but it was new. Post that, I didn’t hear anything that was exciting. Then popped in this film, and I was like this is it.”
