Nirmala Sitharaman Chairs Pre-Budget Consultation with States and Union Territories Ahead of Union Budget 2026–27 in New Delhi

Union Minister for Finance and Corporate Affairs Nirmala Sitharaman chaired a pre-Budget consultation meeting with States and Union Territories with legislatures in New Delhi, ahead of the Union Budget for 2026–27.

The meeting was attended by Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary, the Governor of Manipur, Chief Ministers of Delhi, Goa, Haryana, Jammu and Kashmir, Meghalaya and Sikkim, and Deputy Chief Ministers of Arunachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Rajasthan and Telangana.

Finance Ministers of various States and Union Territories also participated, along with senior officials from the Ministry of Finance. Secretaries from the Departments of Economic Affairs, Expenditure and Revenue were present at the consultation.

The pre-Budget meetings are part of the government’s consultative process to gather views and suggestions from States and Union Territories ahead of the presentation of the Union Budget.

The government is set to adhere to February 1 as the date for the Budget presentation.

The Union Budget for 2025 was presented on February 1. The Budget for 2026, scheduled for the same date, will mark Sitharaman’s ninth consecutive Union Budget presentation.
