Malti born under “very intense circumstances”

Jonas recalled that Malti, born via surrogate in January 2022, arrived months earlier than expected and weighed just 1 pound, 11 ounces at birth. “She came into the world under very intense circumstances… she was… purple basically,” he said, describing how neonatal staff acted immediately to resuscitate and stabilise her. Malti spent three and a half months in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), fighting to gain strength and weight while her parents remained by her side through the ordeal.

Six blood transfusions and round-the-clock care for Malti

During her extended stay in the NICU, compounded by the constraints of the Covid-19 pandemic, Malti required six blood transfusions as part of her treatment. Jonas explained that both he and Chopra Jonas alternated 12-hour hospital shifts to ensure their daughter always had support, an experience he described as both “comforting and frightening” given the conditions and the uncertainty surrounding her fragile start.

Despite the challenges, Malti’s progress eventually brought joy to her parents. “She fought every day for 3.5 months and slowly started to gain some weight… After six blood transfusions, she was doing great, and we got to take her home,” Jonas said, emphasising how remarkable the turnaround felt after such a difficult beginning.

He described his daughter as “magic,” saying that witnessing her growth today feels like a gift. He also praised Priyanka Chopra Jonas for her resilience and care throughout the journey, noting how the couple supported each other through the emotional highs and lows.

“My wife is just brilliant woman with a true heart and perspective and the way in which she handled, it was so inspiring to me. She allowed those days to be tough, but was tougher for our little girl,” Jonas said.

Malti is now thriving, a far cry from her fragile first days, and Jonas’s candid reflection resonated with listeners as a heartfelt reminder of the challenges many families face behind the scenes of celebrity life.
