The 150-160cc sporty commuter bike space has seen a flurry of new entrants in the past few years with new entrants from TVS, Bajaj, Yamaha and other big players. In the meanwhile, Suzuki’s Gixxer models – which have been out since 2019 in their current guise – continue to soldier on more or less unchanged for over half a decade. Now we have learnt that Suzuki is working on a brand-new platform for both the 150cc and 2550cc Gixxer models.
- Expect major mechanical and visual changes for new Gixxers
- More features likely to be introduced too
- Likely to be launched in end-2026 or early-2027
All-new Suzuki Gixxer models being readied
Gixxer 150 & 250 only India-made Suzuki bikes, aside from V-Strom SX
The Gixxer 150 and 250 quartet are Suzuki’s only locally-manufactured bikes – aside from the V-Strom SX – and as such are important for the brand to compete in the cutthroat 150-250cc sporty commuter bike space in India. With these bikes remaining largely unchanged for many years now, sales have slowly dwindled and Suzuki is planning a full-scale revamp to inject fresh life into its Gixxer models.
Just like Bajaj is doing with its Classic Pulsar models, you can expect Suzuki to give the Gixxers’ underpinnings a major overhaul, if not entirely new ones. Feel-good features like colour LCD and in some cases even TFT displays as well as upside down forks have become quite commonplace in this category and since the Gixxers aren’t known for being the most feature-loaded offerings in the class, Suzuki could also spruce up their brochure in the process.
Expect a new look for the Gixxers too and perhaps we could see the faired SF models take design inspiration from the bigger GSX-Rs – like Yamaha’s popular R15 mimicking its bigger brethren.
It is yet not confirmed as to when these all-new Gixxers will launch but a late 2026 or early 2027 debut seems likely for at least some of the bikes.
