After more than two years since the Hero-Harley partnership yielded its first product in the form of the X440, a second one has now joined the American company’s ranks and is called the X440 T. The main difference between the X440 T and the standard X440 is that the former has a more angular – and arguably, better looking – rear three-quarter section in addition to some other small, nuanced visual differences.

  1. Harley X440 T likely mechanically very similar to X440
  2. Has bar-end mirrors, 4 new colours
  3. Expected to be priced similarly to X440 (Rs 2.40 lakh – Rs 2.80 lakh)

Harley-Davidson X440 T: what can be seen?

Visually different at the rear, appears closely related mechanically

The new Harley-Davidson X440 T has an entirely redesigned rear three-quarter section, which was one of the criticisms levied at the X440 when it first came out. The X440 T’s rear is more angular, proportionate and has less empty space in between the rear wheel and the fender. Other changes include bar-end mirrors and a quartet of new colours, which should help the X440 T stand out. Conspicuously, we haven’t received a single image of the X440 T from the front, which is perhaps because it must look very similar to the X440, save for the different mirrors.

Visually, the large throttle cable seen on the X440 is absent here, which points to the fact that the X440 T has moved to ride-by-wire throttle. That means the bike should have additional features which could include riding modes, switchable traction control and possibly even switchable ABS. However, closer examination of the switchgear that the X440 T doesn’t have cruise control, like other Hero launches in the recent past.

Hero and Harley-Davidson haven’t revealed any further details about the X440 T like its technical specifications but we expect it to be quite closely related to the X440 in that regard. What we can make out from the pictures shared with us is that it has the same frame, engine, suspension setup, wheel sizes and dual disc brakes as the X440. Currently the Harley-Davidson X440 is priced between Rs 2.40 lakh – Rs 2.80 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) and when the prices for the X440 T are announced, we expect it to be positioned in the same ballpark.

Whether the X440 T will replace the X440 in Harley-Davidson’s Hero-manufactured lineup in India remains to be seen.
