Ehud Barak after the latter’s name appeared on the Epstein Files. In his first remark on the matter, Netanyahu insisted that Barak’s mention in the files proves that the late British financier and sex offender Jeffrey Epstein was not an Israeli agent, rejecting conspiracy theories abounding online.
“Jeffrey Epstein’s unusual close relationship with Ehud Barak doesn’t suggest Epstein worked for Israel. It proves the opposite,” the Israeli prime minister said in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter. “Stuck on his election loss from over two decades ago, Barak has for years obsessively attempted to undermine Israeli democracy by working with the anti-Zionist radical left in failed attempts to overthrow the elected Israeli government,” Netanyahu averred.

The Israeli prime minister went on to call out Barak’s “personal fixation,” referring to it as the root cause of the problem. “Barak’s personal fixation led him to engage in activities publicly and behind the scenes to undermine the government of Israel, including fueling mass protest movements, fomenting unrest and feeding false media narratives,” he said, referring to Barak’s outspoken support for protests against the government’s contentious efforts to weaken the judiciary.
About Barak’s mention in the Epstein Files
Earlier this month, the
US Department of Justice released millions of internal documents linked to disgraced British financier, confirming the ties to many prominent people, including Barak. The Israeli politician succeeded Netanyahu as PM from 1999 to 2001, and then served as Netanyahu’s defence minister from 2009 to 2013.
However, it is important to note that Barak’s business and personal ties to Epstein have been known for years in Israel. Although there has been no evidence of any wrongdoing by the former Israeli prime minister, who also served as the chief of the
Israeli Defence Forces (IDF).
There is also no evidence of links between Epstein and the Israeli intelligence service. In fact, one of the emails revealed that after being invited to Israel, Epstein rejected the invite, saying, “I do not like Israel. AT ALL.” A previous US Justice Department release of Epstein files showed the financier claiming to have advised Barak’s 2019 election campaign.
At that time, Netanyahu shared an article from an anti-Israel socialist outlet which suggested, based on Epstein’s ties to Barak, that the sex offender had once worked for Israeli intelligence. Even then, the Israeli prime minister rejected the claims.
Epstein pleaded guilty in 2008 to prostitution charges, including soliciting an underage girl. He was arrested again in 2019 on federal charges of sex trafficking of minors. His death in a Manhattan jail cell that year was ruled a suicide by the US Justice Department and the
FBI last year.
