JSW MG Motor India has announced that it has sold over 1 lakh electric cars in the country since the brand started selling EVs in 2020 with the ZS EV. MG EV sales in India
MG EVs have been on sale in India since January 2020
MG Motor India’s EV innings began in January 2020 with the ZS EV. While the all-electric SUV was joined by the much smaller Comet EV in April 2023, it wasn’t until MG launched the Windsor in September 2024 that EV sales started showing a major uptick. The brand added a longer range version of its Tata Nexon EV rival called the Windsor Pro in May 2025.
It seems like MG is on track to have EVs account for 70-80 percent of its sales as the company announced that electric cars now contribute over 70 percent to monthly sales. In fact, MG says it now has a 35 percent share of India’s EV market, up from the 36 percent it had at the end of 2024. From April to September 2025, MG delivered 26,640 EVs, up 220 percent year on year from the 8,329 units in in the same 6-month period in 2024.
This year, the company has forayed into the premium EV segment with its MG Select portfolio, the Cyberster roadster and the M9 MPV. While neither of these expensive models are likely to contribute big numbers to MG’s total sales, the models are meant to showcase the brand’s all-electric luxury aspirations.
