Mercedes-Benz India has issued a recall for the previous-gen Mercedes-AMG E 63 S and E 53 4Matic+, as well as the currently-available CLE Cabriolet. The E-Class models have an electrical connector coupling that “may not meet the current specifications” and can lead to a fire, while the CLE Cabriolet units lack a crucial warning label regarding the automatic front passenger airbag shutoff, which may end up increasing the risk of injury in an accident.

  1. Mercedes-AMG E 63 S, E 53 recall affects 70 units combined
  2. The AMG E-Class models have an electrical issue that can lead to a fire
  3. 59 units of the CLE Cabriolet also recalled over missing airbag warning label

Mercedes-AMG E 63 S, E 53 4Matic+ recall

50 E 63 S units made between September 14, 2022 and October 12, 2023 affected

20 E 53 units made between January 21, 2021 and January 20, 2023 affected

The official SIAM filing states that for both AMG E-Class models, the electrical connector coupling for the transmission wiring harness may fall short of current specifications. This could allow water ingress that might cause a short circuit over time, leading to a thermal overload when the car is parked. In such instances, a fire is possible.

Mercedes-Benz CLE Cabriolet recall

59 CLE Cabriolet models made between April 13, 2024 and June 24, 2024 affected

CLE Cabriolet units are being recalled due to a missing warning label about the automatic front passenger airbag shutoff. Without this label, owners may erroneously assume that a rearward-facing child seat on the front passenger seat would be detected and deactivated automatically. Since the airbag remains permanently active, using a child seat in this position could increase injury risk in a crash.
