People magazine claimed that the couple parted ways. “They are not together right now. They are both good parents though. They co-parent. Yolanda is of course very protective of Gigi.”

Five years later,
Malik has said something in an interview that the insiders say has left Hadid humiliated. Malik was quoted saying, “Maybe it was lust, maybe it was this, maybe it was that. I don’t feel like it was love. To be fair, just to have this on the record, I will always love G, because she is the reason my child is on this Earth and I have the utmost respect for her. I will always love her, but I don’t know if I was in love with her.”

He continued: “I felt like when I [first] said it, I think people took it a tap away. So I’m just like, I have so much respect for this woman and I do love her, a crazy amount, but no. I don’t think I was in love with her at that point, otherwise I would’ve been a better version of myself.”

“No disrespect at all, it was freeing. I am that type of person who runs on my own clock, answers to myself. So, it was so freeing to me. I could just do things, make plans. Sleep until any time I want,” he said.

When the relationship ended

However, sources to People magazine confirmed that Zayn Malik was referencing Yolanda in his social media statement. The power couple first sparked romance rumours in 2015 after Gigi appeared in Malik’s popular track ‘Pillow Talk’. The following year, the duo confirmed their relationship after appearing on the cover of Vogue. Later, they parted ways in 2018 due to personal reasons but reconciled in 2019. It was during the lockdown in 2020, when the couple confirmed Gigi’s first pregnancy and they welcomed their daughter Khai Hadid Malik in September the same year.
