With the recently launched Mahindra XEV 9S, the brand now has four EVs on sale, including the XEV 9e, BE 6, and XUV400. At the sidelines of the XEV 9S’ launch, Rajesh Jejurikar, executive director at Mahindra, said that there are plans to increase the production capacity from the current 4,000-5,000 units to 8,000 units by FY26.
- XEV 9S, XEV 9e, and BE 6 are produced at the Chakan plant in Pune
- Mahindra EV sales projected to grow from 7.5 percent to 25 per cent by 2028
Mahindra EV production capacity
Chakan plant’s peak capacity is 10,000 units per month
As mentioned above, the born-electric Mahindra EVs are manufactured at the brand’s Chakan plant, which currently has an EV-production capacity of up to 5,000 units per month. Notably, the manufacturing plant has a total production capacity of up to 10,000 units per month. However, Rajesh Jejurikar says that they will keep operating capacity at about 8,000 a month by March 2026 “to make sure the supply chain, vendor ecosystem, and workforce are prepared to run consistently at that level.”
EVs expected to contribute to 20-25 percent of total Mahindra sales by 2028

We had reported earlier that around 7.5 percent of Mahindra’s total monthly sales come from its EVs, of which around 7 percent is accounted for by the BE 6 and XEV 9e. The new XEV 9S is expected to take the numbers even higher, and Mahindra expects its EV sales percentage to rise to 20-25 percent by 2028, about 3 times the current figure.
However, Mahindra is yet to disclose how the increased production capacity will be allocated among the born-electric models, which the Mahindra ED says will depend on the demand. “We will communicate model-wise details closer to the time, once we get into higher operating levels,” Jejurikar added.
