KTM has announced a press release on its international website for the recall of multiple 390 series modes. This recall is issued for a potential engine stalling issue. Bajaj has confirmed to us that this recall does not affect bikes sold in India
- Recall affects 390 Duke, Adventure, Enduro and SMC models
- Issue will be addressed by updated ECU software
The affected models all use the new generation 399cc single cylinder engine and the previous 373cc models do not come under this recall. Husqvarna models that use this same engine will also come under the same recall.
The models covered include the 390 Duke (MY 2024-2026) and MY 2025-2026 models for the KTM 390 Enduro R, 390 SMC R, 390 Adventure, 390 Adventure R and 390 Adventure X as well as the 2024-2026 Svartpilen and Vitpilen 401 models. All these models have been made in India.
The KTM statement claims that a condition has been identified where in rare cases the engine can stall at low rpms. This tendency to stall at low revs is something we have mentioned in previous reviews, particularly of the more off road oriented models like the 390 390 Enduro R.
The fix will be a simple flash of fresh ECU software with no mechanical changes or modifications required. That being said, the press release mentions that this update will go beyond simply solving the issue and also promises “improving rideability with improved low-end torque and increased engine stability.”
