The all-new Kia Carnival has launched in India, and though it carries forward its predecessor’s 2.2-litre diesel engine and 8-speed automatic gearbox, the MPV is now more frugal. The ARAI-rated fuel efficiency figure for the new Carnival is 14.85kpl.
- New Carnival nearly 1kpl more efficient than its predecessor
- Gets a 72-litre fuel tank for
Compared to the previous Carnival on sale in India, the new MPV’s 2.2-litre engine makes 7hp less and 1Nm of torque more (193hp and 441Nm), and is 0.95kpl more frugal as well; its predecessor was rated at 13.9kpl. Considering its 72-litre fuel tank, the new Carnival has a theoretical maximum range of 1,069km on a full tank of diesel.
The new Carnival has been brought to India as a CBU import, which accounts for its Rs 63.9 lakh price tag. There are plans to locally assemble the MPV in the near future, which should help bring its price down significantly. For now, the Carnival is available as a 7-seater only, with a 2+2+3 seating layout.
Its price tag also means that, for the moment, the Carnival doesn’t have any direct rivals in India. It slots between the Toyota Innova Hycross (Rs 19.77 lakh-30.98 lakh) and the Toyota Vellfire (Rs 1.22 crore-1.32 crore).
