The Israeli military said its forces “remain deployed in accordance with the ceasefire agreement and will continue to operate to remove any immediate threat”.

The US-brokered ceasefire, aimed at ending the nearly three-year-long war between Israel and Hamas, is still in place despite both sides alleging the other of violations. The first phase of the ceasefire largely halted the fighting and provided for the release of all remaining living and dead hostages held by terrorists in Gaza in exchange for prisoners and the bodies of dead Palestinians held by Israel.

IDF says nearly 70k Gazans died in war

For the first time since the war started in 2023, the Israeli Defense Forces acknowledged that nearly 70,000 Gazans have died in the conflict. However, the military has said that 25,000 of the dead were Hamas terrorists, rejecting claims by international organisations that most of those killed in the war are civilians.

Additionally, the IDF has released evidence indicating that approximately 13% of Hamas rockets misfired through early 2024, a timeframe marked by the daily launch of large-scale rocket salvos. According to these findings, these failed launches fell short within the territory, resulting in the deaths of numerous Palestinians.

It also said that Hamas has executed hundreds of Palestinians whom it considered political opponents or civilians whom it was trying to prevent from fleeing an area that the IDF said needed to be evacuated.
