Ali Larijani will discuss the latest regional and international developments as well as economic cooperation between Iran and Oman

Iran’s top security official, Ali Larijani, visited Oman on Tuesday, days after the country hosted Tehran and the US for talks aimed at easing tensions and discussing the former’s nuclear programme.

Larijani, Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, is a close aide to Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei and will likely meet Omani Foreign Minister Badr al-Busaidi and Oman’s Sultan Haitham bin Tariq Al Said, Iran’s state agency IRNA said. Badr al-Busaidi is the chief negotiator in the US-Iran talks.

They would discuss the latest regional and international developments as well as economic cooperation between Iran and Oman, the news agency said. Larijani will then head to Qatar, according to Iran’s foreign ministry spokesman Esmail Baqaei.

Meanwhile, the news agency has also reported that Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi held a series of calls with leaders from Turkiye, Egypt and Saudi Arabia on Tuesday to give them a briefing on the latest round of talks.

‘Destructive influence’

Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s upcoming visit to Washington has irked Tehran, which has warned of “destructive” influence on diplomacy ahead of the leader’s meeting with US President Donald Trump.

“Our negotiating party is America. It is up to America to decide to act independently of the pressures and destructive influences that are detrimental to the region,” said Iranian foreign ministry spokesman Esmail Baqaei in a weekly press briefing.

“The Zionist regime has repeatedly, as a saboteur, shown that it opposes any diplomatic process in our region that leads to peace.”

“The June experience was a very bad experience. Therefore, taking these experiences into account, we are determined to secure Iran’s national interests through diplomacy,” Baqaei added.

On Saturday, Netanyahu’s office said in a statement that the Israeli premier “believes any negotiations must include limitations on ballistic missiles and a halting of the support for the Iranian axis” – referring to Iran’s allied armed groups in the region.
