At the recently concluded NGO ASEAN Superfast Fest, Team Fast Track Racing India set a new record for the fastest quarter mile time by a KTM 390 engine, clocking a remarkable 11.342 second quarter mile run.

  1. The quarter mile sprint was achieved in 11.3 seconds.
  2. The KTM 390 engine was run with relatively light modifications for this run.

Small modifications, Big gains.

Competing under what this event classifies as stock-engine regulations, the KTM 390 retained its original engine displacement and internal components, while benefiting from mods permitted within the class.  The modifications on the 373cc motor included a higher compression ratio achieved by a shaved cylinder head and a thinner gasket. Additionally, it had polished internal components for lower frictional losses. Another valuable upgrade was in the form of a larger fuel injector and an API Tech ECU.

The bike used 100 Octane fuel for the run by swapping the original trellis frame for a lightweight drag spec chassis along with bespoke swingarm, wheels, and tyres. This change allowed the team to reduce weight to just 86 kg (dry), which is almost 54kg less than the dry weight of the stock bike.

With all of these changes, the engine now puts out around 59bhp at the rear wheel and approximately 46Nm of peak torque and it does so while keeping the stock redline of 10,200rpm. In the two runs that were attempted, the bike clocked trap-speeds of 188kph and 192kph respectively, and achieved the quickest 11.342 second quarter mile run.

Rider Syed Imran, who piloted the motorcycle to its record-breaking run, reflected on the
achievement saying, “At this level, riding a stock-spec motorcycle is about absolute precision and trust. Every launch and every gear change had to be perfect. Knowing we were pushing a stock KTM 390 to a world record made the moment incredibly special.”

This achievement comes after the team established itself as the fastest KTM 390 in India with a timing of 11.732 seconds at the The Valley Run 2025 Winter Edition organized by Elite Octane, and clinching the FMSCI National Championship 2025.
