An Indian content creator named Sachin Awasthi claimed in an Instagram post that immigration authorities detained him in both
South Korea and
China while he was travelling with his wife. In his Instagram post, Awasthi noted that he and his wife were detained for 38 hours on Jeju Island, South Korea.
The couple was denied entry on arrival and was taken to the detention area without a clear explanation. “No proper explanation, just told to wait. And we waited,” Awasthi wrote in the caption of his Instagram post.
He recalled that the detention centre felt like a jail and that there was no access to sunlight or the outside. Awasthi mentioned that he and his wife were given jail food during their detention. “Hours passed without clarity. They kept us in their detention centre (it was similar to a jail with no sunlight & no access to the outside) and also gave us jail food. Nobody told us what was going to happen. They blackmailed us into booking a really expensive return ticket,” he wrote.
“Later, during transit through China, it continued. More waiting. More supervision. Communication was restricted. No use of phone, no food, and limited water. Sleeping conditions were worse. Even the use of restrooms was monitored with a police official who had a bodycam and went to the washroom with us,” the Indian influencer furthered.
Awasthi went on to note that he and his wife were pressured by the authorities to book an expensive return ticket. They had restricted communication, limited food and water, and monitored use of restrooms. “By the time we were told we would be sent back, we were mentally drained. The return ticket cost almost 10× the normal price,” he recalled.
The influencer clarified that he was not sharing the story for sympathy or drama. “Immigration decisions are their authority. But they did not have any right to treat us like criminals,” he wrote. He insisted that while travelling looks glamorous online, it can test people emotionally and in unexpected ways.
He also shared that he has posted a full, detailed story on his YouTube channel, explaining what happened, why it happened, and advice for travellers.
