Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal on Thursday said negotiations between India and the United States are “progressing well,” clarifying remarks made by the Chief Economic Adviser (CEA) regarding the ongoing trade discussions.
Speaking to reporters, Goyal said he was “not aware of the basis” of the CEA’s comments, adding that India and the US have held five substantive rounds of negotiations so far. He emphasized that the current visit is not a negotiating round, but part of ongoing engagements.

“Negotiations should lead to a deal where both sides stand to benefit,” Goyal said. “A deal shouldn’t be negotiated with a deadline just to avoid mistakes. If the US side is happy, we should be soon signing on the dotted line.”
The minister’s comments suggest cautious optimism as both countries continue discussions aimed at resolving trade issues and expanding economic cooperation.
