India urges restraint and diplomacy after US-Israel strikes on Iran trigger retaliatory attacks in the Gulf. MEA emphasises civilian safety, respect for sovereignty.
As tensions escalate in the West Asia following joint strikes by the United States and Israel on Iran, India on Saturday called for restraint from all parties, emphasising respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of nations.
In its first official response to the rapidly unfolding crisis, New Delhi expressed being “deeply concerned” about developments in Iran and the Gulf region.
Following the US-Israel attacks, Iran retaliated with military strikes targeting several American bases in the region, including in Qatar, Kuwait, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
”We urge all sides to exercise restraint, avoid escalation, and prioritise the safety of civilians,” the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said.
”Dialogue and diplomacy should be pursued to de-escalate tensions and address underlying issues. Sovereignty and territorial integrity of all states must be respected,” it said.
The MEA said its missions in the West Asia are in touch with Indian nationals and have issued appropriate advisories, asking them to remain vigilant and follow local security guidance.
