The meeting was co-chaired by Joint Secretary with India’s Department of Commerce, Saket Kumar, and the Director General for Economic, Cultural and Scientific Diplomacy at Slovenia’s Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs, Peter Japelj.
They reviewed the current state of bilateral economic engagement to strengthen cooperation across key sectors and chart a forward-looking roadmap for trade and investment between the two nations. Japelj also met Commerce Secretary Rajesh Agrawal.
In financial year 2024-25, India’s bilateral trade with Slovenia clocked $848.13 million, with exports worth $586.04 million and imports worth $262.09 million.

India and Slovenia already have agreements on setting up a Joint Committee on Bilateral Trade and Cooperation, Scientific and Technology Cooperation, a Double Taxation Avoidance Agreement and an Agreement on Mutual Promotion and Protection of Investments.
Both sides expressed optimism for an early conclusion of a balanced and mutually beneficial India-EU Free Trade Agreement (FTA), for which a delegation from the EU is expected to come to India next month to continue talks.
Over the past few months, India has held talks with several EU member countries like Germany, France, Italy, Sweden, Norway, and Romania. India and the EU are looking to conclude FTA talks within the current calendar year.
