India on Friday said it is closely monitoring developments in Tehran amid escalating tensions between Iran and the United States, and is in constant contact with Indian nationals in the country.
During a media briefing in New Delhi, Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said the government is actively tracking the situation and engaging regularly with the Indian community in Tehran.
“We are keeping an eye on the situation and staying in constant touch with the Indian community living there,” he said in response to queries on the worsening standoff.
Rising Iran–US tensions
The statement comes as tensions between Iran and the United States have sharply intensified, with reports suggesting Washington may be weighing possible military options, subject to a final decision by Donald Trump.
The US has increased its military presence in the Middle East in recent days, moving warships, aircraft and additional forces closer to the region amid stalled negotiations over Tehran’s nuclear programme.
Diplomatic efforts stall
Recent talks in Geneva saw some engagement but failed to produce a breakthrough. White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said negotiations had made limited progress but that both sides remained “far apart” on key issues. She urged Tehran to present concrete proposals and said it would be “wise” to reach an agreement with the Trump administration.
US President Trump has also indicated that military options remain under consideration, including the possible use of the Diego Garcia base in the Indian Ocean if diplomacy fails.
International concern over the situation continues to grow as tensions remain unresolved.
