The sisters of jailed former Pakistan prime minister Imran Khan have accused the country’s military leadership of subjecting him and his family to severe repression, warning that global attention is now focused on his treatment. Speaking after rare prison visits, they alleged that Khan is being deliberately targeted under the authority of army chief Asim Munir, whom they hold responsible for his continued detention and isolation.

His sister said the situation reflects a broader campaign against the former leader and his family. “No political leader’s family has ever faced such cruelty,” Khan said, adding, “I want to make it absolutely clear once again — no matter what he does, I will neither bow down nor submit to him.”

Additionally, one of Imran Khan’s sisters told Al Jazeera that the family has rejected a government medical board’s assertion that the jailed leader’s eyesight has improved. The claim comes just days after a court report stated that the former cricketer-turned-politician had
lost most of the vision in one eye.

According to a medical board appointed by the government to assess Khan’s condition, his eyesight has shown marked improvement following weeks of concern over his worsening vision. The medical report, reviewed by Al Jazeera, states that vision in his right eye improved from 6/36 to 6/9, while his left eye remains at 6/6 with corrective glasses.

Family members described restrictions on meetings, communication, and access, saying these measures are intended to weaken Khan psychologically and politically. His sister maintained that while he remains physically stable, the conditions are deeply concerning. She said, “My brother is alive but being mentally tortured,” highlighting fears about his wellbeing and the pressure he faces in custody.

Khan himself has accused the military establishment of ordering harsh treatment. In a message shared from prison, he said, “All basic rights — both human and those legally granted to prisoners — have been suspended for both of us,” referring to himself and his wife.

The family also urged the international community to remain vigilant, arguing that his imprisonment has implications beyond domestic politics. His sister warned that the situation reflects a wider erosion of democratic norms and civil liberties in Pakistan. Khan, who has been behind bars since 2023.
