Kasim Khan, son of former PM, has cited 922 days of solitary confinement, alleged medical neglect, and the denial of proper treatment as the reasons for his father’s deteriorating eyesight, prompting the Supreme Court to order a medical assessment
Former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan’s son Kasim Khan on Thursday said that his father has lost most of the vision in his right eye, with his lawyer telling the Supreme Court that only 15% vision remains.
Kasim attributed this to 922 days of solitary confinement, alleged medical neglect—including the denial of blood tests—and the deliberate withholding of proper treatment while in jail.

Taking to X, Kasim wrote, “We have been informed that my father, Imran Khan, has lost most of the vision in his right eye, with reports indicating only 15% eyesight remains. This is the direct consequence of 922 days of solitary confinement, medical neglect (denied blood tests) and the deliberate denial of proper treatment in jail.”
Kasim held the current government, the Army Chief, and others “enabling this cruelty” responsible for Khan’s deteriorating health.
“The responsibility lies squarely with the regime in power, the Army Chief and the puppets enabling this cruelty. This physical deterioration is happening under their orders, their watch and their responsibility. They have manipulated and warped the justice system in order to keep my father in solitary confinement,” he said.
Khan’s family also said they are still being denied visas to visit him as his condition worsens, and called on human rights organisations, legal institutions, and democratic nations to intervene and hold those responsible accountable.
15% vision left, lawyer informs SC
Separately, Khan’s lawyer Salman Safdar informed the Pakistan Supreme Court that the former Prime Minister has just 15% vision left in his right eye, attributing the loss to prison authorities’ inaction.
According to a BBC report, Safdar, who visited Khan for the first time in seven weeks, said the former cricketer began experiencing blurred and hazy vision three to four months ago, but despite notifying the jail superintendent, was only given eye drops.
Khan’s condition was later diagnosed as a blood clot in his right eye, causing significant damage and limited vision, added the report.
Authorities had previously confirmed that Khan underwent a 20-minute medical procedure on January 24 at Islamabad’s PIMS hospital, with minister Ata Tarar stating he was “fine and healthy.”
Safdar submitted a report to Chief Justice Yahya Afridi and Justice Shahid Bilal Hasan, describing Khan as “visibly perturbed and deeply distressed” by the loss of vision and lack of timely treatment.
He urged that Khan be examined by expert ophthalmologists, allowed access to his family, and provided improved prison conditions.
Intervention is necessary, says SC
The Supreme Court has now directed authorities to constitute a medical board to assess the health of Khan.
The bench also instructed officials to facilitate communication between Khan and his two sons, who live in the United Kingdom with his former wife, British producer and screenwriter Jemima Goldsmith.
“The issue of Imran’s health is most important. Intervention is necessary. His phone calls with his son are also important,” Chief Justice Afridi said during the hearing.
The order came after the bench resumed hearing a case about the jail conditions of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder-president and ordered a detailed medical check-up before February 16.
