Donald Trump said that losing 2026 midterm elections would trigger fresh impeachment efforts against him. He urged the republican lawmakers to focus on healthcare, gender issues, and election integrity as he looks to consolidate power and fend off investigations ahead of the polls.

US President Donald Trump pressed on Tuesday that Republicans should definitely win the 2026 congressional midterm elections, saying that a defeat will lead to impeachment proceedings against him.

He asked the Republican lawmakers to come together and get along with this election.

“You gotta win the midterms ’cause, if we don’t win the midterms, it’s just gonna be – I mean, they’ll find a reason to impeach me,” Trump told Republican lawmakers at a retreat in Washington as reported by Reuters.

Focusing on Healthcare

Amid recent US intervention in Venezuela and the capture of Nicolas Maduro along with his wife, Trump is in the headlines with his recent remarks on Greenland.

The midterm elections are scheduled in November 2026, ahead of the midterms Trump is setting up an agenda, escaping from various other accusations against him that could lead to further investigations.

He told them to put aside their differences and sell his policies on gender, healthcare and election integrity to an American electorate angry about the cost of living.

“They say that when you win the presidency, you lose the midterm,” Trump said. “I wish you could explain to me what the hell’s going on with the mind of the public.”

Trump asked his lawmakers to figure it out and be flexible in their approach addressing the administration’s healthcare policies.

Unstructured 84 minutes speech

Trump addressed less about the recent Venezuela intervention, and focused on stock market gains. He also mentioned the US Capitol attack by his supporters on January 6, 2021.

A speech with different dimensions lasted for about 84 minutes, signalling that Maduro copied his style of dancing and how his wife Melania Trump is highly sophisticated and stops him from dancing in public saying “it’s so unpresidential.”

Trump predicted Republicans would beat the odds and deliver an “epic midterm victory,” but also groused about some members who don’t fall in line.

Trump urged his party to more forcefully push back on Democrats’ near-unified message on healthcare, as the minority party advocates to extend expired subsidies that made Obamacare insurance more affordable for millions of Americans.

‘Figure it out’

He told the lawmakers to figure out the important issues and the owning of healthcare facilities in the nation.

“All of these issues are very important issues, but you can own healthcare,” he told lawmakers. “Figure it out.”

Fear of impeachment

Trump was impeached two times by the Democratic-led House of Representatives during his 2017-2021 term in office. Democrats faulted his Ukraine policy and the January 6, 2021, riot at the Capitol by his supporters. The Senate voted to acquit him in both cases.

While the Democrats continue to accuse Trump and write articles about his impeachment and how he misused his power, the White House has denied such allegations.

Trump to expand powers

Trump has moved to expand his powers to act alone in realms ranging from immigration to military action and federal regulation. He faces an important Supreme Court ruling soon on whether his broad use of tariffs usurped a power the Constitution granted to Congress.
