The launch of the new Hyundai Venue marks a first for the compact SUV in its six-year history, the option of a diesel-automatic powertrain. Despite the previous-gen model, and the facelift that came in 2022, only having a manual gearbox for the 1.5-litre diesel engine, this configuration accounted for 20 percent of the compact SUV’s sales so far.

Hyundai Venue petrol:diesel sales split
80 percent of Venues sold are with the 1.2 petrol and 1.0 turbo-petrol engine options
Considering domestic wholesales of the Venue crossed the 7 lakh mark at the beginning of September, diesels contributed 1.4 lakh units to that total. Venue petrol and turbo-petrol variants, meanwhile, had an 80 percent share, about 5.6 lakh units.
Interestingly, the petrol:diesel sales split of the Mahindra XUV 3XO – which offers diesel-manual and diesel-automatic options – is about 70:30 in favour of petrols. In fact, with the introduction of the Venue diesel-automatic in two variants – mid-spec HX5 (Rs 11.58 lakh) and the top-spec HX10 (Rs 15.51 lakh) with the second-gen model, sales of the diesel version are expected to increase by 10 percent.
Hyundai Venue CNG not expected
Hyundai has also confirmed that while it offers CNG-powered versions of its smaller cars – the Grand i10 Nios, Exter and Aura – there are currently no plans to offer a Venue CNG. Many of the Venue’s rivals do come with a factory-fit CNG option, such as the Maruti Fronx and Brezza, Toyota Taisor, and the Tata Nexon. It should be noted that the Nexon offers the widest range of powertrain options and is the only compact SUV that has diesel and CNG options. Renault and Nissan offer official dealer-level CNG kits for the Kiger and Magnite, respectively, with the Japanese brand having recently announced that their kits are compatible with Magnite AMT variants as well.
