Around a week after our story on the Bayon-based compact SUV, spy shots of its N line brethren have surfaced online. With Hyundai bringing the former to India, the Bayon N Line could make it too. These fresh set of pictures of a camouflaged prototype gives us an exterior glimpse of the upcoming Hyundai SUV, and a partial look at its interior. Without further ado, let us now get into some of its details.

  1. The N Line variant mostly gets cosmetic upgrades over the standard model
  2. Based on the same platform as the global-spec Bayon
  3. Engine options likely to include Hyundai’s new 1.2-litre TGDi petrol mill

What does the exterior of the Hyundai Compact SUV N Line reveal?

Differences over the standard model mostly appear to be cosmetic in nature.

Spy shots show the N Line test mule featuring a satin silver garnish on the revamped front bumper, which is otherwise just a plain matte black unit on the standard model. Hyundai is likely to have tweaked the design of the main grille and lower air dam to add to the sporty character of this compact SUV. Whether the LED headlights and daytime-running elements have been changed or not remains to be seen.

The N Line variant of the Bayon-based SUV, as seen in these spy images, features larger two-tone alloy rims that have a sportier design and get ‘N’ branding. Moreover, the matte black lower-body trim has given way to a gloss black effect. Hyundai has also made use of gloss black trim on the doors and around the windows, while the two-tone roof rails of the standard model have been replaced with smaller but sportier-looking black rails on the N Line.

Some of the visible changes to the rear of the N Line include a different and sportier design for the bumper. To enhance its sporty appeal, Hyundai has tacked on twin exhaust pipes and what looks like an air diffuser finished in gloss black. The N Line variant also appears to feature a more aggressive design for the roof spoiler over the standard model.

What do we know about the Hyundai Compact SUV N Line’s interior?

No major design changes over the standard model expected.

Unlike with the exterior, changes made to the interior of this N Line version are likely to be limited in their scope. While the test mule in the spy images has its dashboard and steering wheel covered up, the design and overall layout of these are unlikely to be different from the standard Bayon-based compact SUV. What it does appear to feature are red piping on the seats, with perhaps ‘N Line’ branding on the floor mats and door sills, which are not visible in these spy shots. However, the red piping extends to the rear-seat headrests as well.

Hyundai Compact SUV N Line powertrain

Likely to borrow its engines from the standard model.

Exact powertrain details of the Hyundai Bayon-based compact SUV’s N Line variant are currently under wraps. However, we expect the South Korean brand’s new 1.2-litre four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine to be available in the standard model that is headed to India. Hyundai could carry this same engine over to the N Line version as well. The entry-level variants of the India-spec model may come with a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol mill that currently powers the Venue and i20 N Line. Finally, the brand could tweak the N Line version’s suspension for a sportier ride. The platform will be shared with the global-spec Bayron, though.

Hyundai Compact SUV N Line expected price

The Bayon-based compact SUV for India is expected to be priced from around Rs 7.00 lakh to Rs 15.00 lakh (ex-showroom). Even though it is not a full-fat N model, the N Line version will still command a premium over the standard car.
